The Heritage Foundation is a conservative think tank located in Washington, DC. Founded in 1973, it works to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense. According to its website, The Heritage Foundation has 244 staff members and a $61 million expense budget.
In addition to individual contributions, The Heritage Foundation receives funding from a variety of corporations and associations, including AIG, Altria Group (Philip Morris), Lockheed Martin, and ExxonMobil. Since President Obama took office, Heritage has been critical of the administration's priorities, including global warming legislation and health care reform.
