The National Legal Center for the Public Interest merged into the American Enterprise Institute, a right-wing think tank, in September 2007. It is now officially known as the AEI Legal Center for the Public Interest (AEILC). Originally founded in 1975, the center seeks to foster knowledge about law and the administration of justice, especially with respect to individual rights, free enterprise, property ownership, limited government, and a fair and efficient judiciary.
Even before merging with AEI, the center had many prominent members, such as Judge Robert Bork and Kenneth Starr. Today, former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton and torture memo author John Yoo are associated with AEILC. It has received significant funding from the Olin and Bradley Foundations, as well as corporations like Philip Morris and ExxonMobil.
