Institute of Economic Affairs

The Institute of Economic Affairs is a free-market think tank based in London, England. Founded in 1955, IEAs mission is to improve understanding of the fundamental institutions of a free society by analysing and expounding the role of markets in solving economic and social problems.
IEA carries out its mission mainly through its publishing program. The organizations other efforts include conferences, seminars, lectures, and student outreach. Milton Friedman said of IEA founder Anthony Fisher, the U-turn in British policy executed by Margaret Thatcher owes more to him (i.e., Fisher) than any other individual. American Friends of the Institute for Economic Affairs is a separate foundation set up to allow Americans to donate to the IEA. IEA has received funding from ExxonMobil.
