Galen Institute

The Galen Institute is a think tank dedicated to promoting free-market health care policies. According to its website, the Galen Institute advocates for individual freedom, consumer choice, and competition in the health sector. The organization was founded in 1995 by Grace-Marie Turner, who continues to serve as the groups president.
In 2009, Turner wrote several op-ed pieces criticizing President Obamas plan to reform the health insurance industry. On the Galen Institutes website, Turner offered support for the Patients Choice Act, the bill proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK). McClatchy reported that the Galen Institute receives funding from the pharmaceutical and medical industries.
