Founded in 1946 by Leonard E. Read, a vocal critic of the New Deal, the group hails itself as the oldest free-market organizations in the United States. FEE focuses most of its work on conducting seminars and lectures, connecting prominent libertarian thinkers with students in its free college and high school seminars. Lawrence W. Reed, former President of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, serves as President of FEE.
