Founded in 1984, the Competitive Enterprise Institute is a Washington, DC-based "public interest group dedicated to free enterprise and limited government." CEI holds that "the best solutions come from people making their own choices in a free marketplace, rather than government intervention." Priding itself as "one of Washington's feistiest think tanks," CEI wades into nearly every issue imaginable, including everything from online gambling to prison rape. As of late, CEI has helped promote the 2009 "TEA parties" and have strongly opposed efforts to curb global warming, writing, "the benefits of economic growth unhindered by costly emissions controls surpass the deleterious effects of global warming." CEI often dispatches its policy experts to address audiences as part of its speakers bureau. The group claims their speeches allow audiences to "get the inside info on the people who are trying to raise your taxes, regulate your business or censor your media."
