Founded in 1984, Citizens Against Government Waste is a Washington, DC-based "private, non-partisan, non-profit organization" whose "mission is to eliminate waste, mismanagement, and inefficiency in the federal government." CAGW is "the legacy" of President Reagans which worked like "tireless bloodhounds" to "made 2,478 recommendations which, if implemented, would save $424.4 billion over three years." Each year, CAGW releases a "Congressional Pig Book," which is an "expos of the most glaring and irresponsible pork-barrel projects in the 13 annual appropriations bills." The group's website states "CAGW is nationally recognized as the source of information on government waste. CAGW representatives appear frequently on television, radio talk shows, and in print." Given their shared objectives of cutting government funding for programs, it is no surprise that CAGW is closely linked with many high-profile congressional Republicans.
