Center for Equal Opportunity

501(c)(3) nonprofit
Employer Identification Number: 52-1543156
The Center for Equal Opportunity is a "conservative think tank devoted exclusively to issues of race and ethnicity" fervently opposed to affirmative action and bilingual education. The group's chairman, Linda Chavez, served as Staff Director of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights under President Reagan, while the group's President, Roger Clegg, served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights under Presidents Reagan and Bush (41). In order to fulfill its vision of a colorblind society, CEO opposes "admission, hiring, and contracting policies that discriminate, sort, or prefer on the basis of race or ethnicity" and "racial gerrymandering." Most recently, CEO "expressed extreme disappointment in President Obamas announcement today that he was nominating Judge Sonia Sotomayor."
