The American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD) Arizona-based group whose self-described mission "is to advocate for the preservation of the founding principles of the United States Constitution, liberty and freedom, through the separation of mosque and state." The AIFD seeks to establish an institutional and discursive space to serve as a counterweight to the pull of political Islam. To this end, the group has waded into several recent contentious political issues. The AIFD has supported the trial of suspected terrorists as enemy combatants in military tribunals, encouraged the proliferation of anti-shariah laws in local communities, and inveighed against the construction of a mosque in lower Manhattan near Ground Zero.

The AIFD was founded by Dr. M Zuhdi Jasser, a physician and former U.S. Navy Medical officer. Dr. Jasser was recently called by Rep. Peter King (R-NY) to testify before the House Homeland Security Committee to what Rep. King called "the growing threat of Islamic radicalization" in Muslim-American communities. Dr. Jasser is a frequent guest on the Fox News Channel and has been dubbed as "Glenn Beck's favorite Muslim."
