The American Council of Trustees & Alumni (ACTA) is a non-profit organization that promotes the free exchange of ideas at colleges and universities across the United States. Launched in 1995 as the National Alumni Forum, ACTAs founding members included Lynne Cheney and Sen. Joseph Lieberman.
Led by president Ann Neal, ACTA has engaged in an ideological attack on higher education, painting U.S. colleges and universities as biased institutions where nave students are indoctrinated by liberal professors who shun opposing views. Sen. Lieberman divorced himself from ACTA in 2001 after the organization released a report calling universities the weak link in the national response to 9/11.
