Smear: Alan Bersin Supports Amnesty And Has A Weak Position On Border Safety

September 17, 2009 9:52 am ET

Conservative sources are reporting that Alan Bersin will be a weak border czar and will support amnesty for undocumented immigrants.

Alan Bersin will not protect our borders and will support liberal amnesty.

"Alan Bersin is the Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and Special Representative for Border Affairs, briefly known as the 'border czar' in the administration of Barack Hussein Obama. He was previously the Secretary of Education of California under Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the head of the large San Diego city school district. As Secretary of Education and district head, Bersin took little action against the numerous illegal immigrants in schools under his supervision. As a result, it seems unlikely that Bersin will take strong action against illegal crossers in his role as border czar, and that he will probably support the liberal amnesty programs endorsed by President Obama."

According to

"Bersin's first stint as border czar, under President Bill Clinton, coincided with 'Operation Gatekeeper,' which boosted security along the U.S.-Mexico border, particularly around San Diego. Bersin's focus was on smugglers of both people and contraband rather than 'economic migrants.' His policies called for strict punishment for people caught crossing the border multiple times. Under Bersin, the San Diego border became significantly more difficult to breach, but critics say the fortification just pushed immigrants out to the desert, where crossing the border is more dangerous."
