Sen. Bond's Fifteen Minutes of Falsehoods On The Senate Floor

Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO) took to the Senate floor this morning to criticize "job-killing tax increases," attack the stimulus and health care bills, and make misleading claims about the impact of the Bush tax cuts. Bond falsely claimed that Democrats were trying to institute the "largest tax increase in history" and would "raise taxes on seniors," "small businesses," and "our family farmers." In reality, Bond's claims are wildly exaggerated. President Obama and congressional Democrats have proposed extending the Bush tax cuts to 97% of Americans -- the vast majority of farmers, seniors, and small business owners.

Kobach In Valley Park, MO

Like his work in other cities across the country, Kris Kobach injected himself into the immigration debate of the small town of Valley Park, MO.  After his legislation was written, challenged, and appealed, Kobach left the town of 6,300 with a legal bill of $270,000.

Rep. Akin: Just Plain Wrong On Stimulus, Job Creation

Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) took to the House floor on Wednesday night to argue that the Democratic Party and President Obama are turning the current recession into another Great Depression. Akin claimed that the Recovery Act has failed, that any and all good news about the economy is part of a bubble created by the Federal Reserve and that Democratic legislation to address climate change will tax anyone who touches a light switch. The facts show that the Missouri Republican is wrong on all three counts.

Rep. Blunt Misrepresents GOP Health Care Plan

During a March 10, 2010 appearance on CNN's Rick's List, Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO) painted a deceptively rosy picture of the Republicans' health care alternative.  Despite Blunt's claims, the Republican plan leaves 52 million Americans without health coverage, allows insurers to deny coverage for preexisting conditions, and does less than the Democratic bill to reduce the federal budget deficit.

Rep. Blunt: Wrong On Energy

The "Energy Independence" section of Rep. Roy Blunt's Senate campaign website, RoyBlunt.com, makes a slew of false claims about clean energy legislation.  Contrary to Blunt's claims, investing in clean energy would boost America's economy by $111 billion and create up to 1.9 million jobs.

Rep. Roy Blunt Smears Robin Carnahan With False Attacks On Recovery Act

In Missouri, 7th district Congressman Roy Blunt is in a heated race with Secretary of State Robin Carnahan for the state's open U.S. Senate seat.  On February 11, 2010, the 7th District Congressional Republican Committee released an ad smearing Carnahan for supporting the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that "failed to create jobs." In reality, the Recovery Act has created up to 2.4 million American jobs, saved 105,000 Missourians from poverty, and provided $638 million for Missouri's dilapidated roads and highways.

GOP Reps Falsely Claim Clean Energy Legislation Would Harm Economy, Kill Jobs

On January 21, 2010, Reps. Lamar Smith (R-TX), Sam Graves (R-MO), Trent Franks (R-AZ), and Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA) wrote a letter to Cass Sunstein, the White House administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.  In the letter, the congressmen falsely claimed clean energy policies would kill jobs and harm the economy.  In reality, increasing our investment in clean energy technology would create 1.9 million American jobs and boost household income by nearly $1,200 per year!
