FAIR Hails Anti-Immigrant, Islamophobe Victory In The Netherlands

In a June 11 post at the Federation for American Immigration Reform's Stein Report, FAIR Media Director Ira Mehlman touted recent Dutch election results as evidence that the cause of strict immigration enforcement is gaining steam worldwide. The victorious Dutch Freedom Party (PVV) is virulently anti-immigrant and Islamophobic, and its leader Geert Wilders has a history of inflammatory and offensive statements about Islam and Muslims.

Gov. Brewer Needs To Be Prepped For Her Meeting With The President

Last night during an appearance on On the Record with Greta Van Susteren, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer prefaced her meeting with President Obama on the state of immigration in Arizona by saying that she has no idea of how border troops will be deployed and also that she would like to see border security measures strengthened. Perhaps Gov. Brewer is unaware that her Republican counterparts in Congress have never really been quite in the mood to fund border security.

Fact Checking The Sunday Shows - May 30, 2010

On Fox News Sunday, Rep. Darrell Issa repeated his claim that the Obama administration committed a crime when it offered Rep. Joe Sestak a job. Either Rep. Issa isn't paying attention to the expert consensus that there was nothing criminal about the Sestak affair, or he's determined to keep this story alive because the GOP is using it to criticize the president in an election year. On Meet the Press, Arizona's J.D. Hayworth decried any effort at comprehensive immigration reform as "amnesty."

Rep. Lamar Smith Says "DREAM Act Is A Nightmare"

In an op-ed in The Hill, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) attempted to mislead readers about the DREAM Act.  While Smith tries to paint the legislation as a new kind of amnesty, in reality the DREAM Act allows the children of immigrants to earn legal residency if they have not been arrested and are attending college or are enlisted in the armed services.

Fact Checking The Sunday Shows - May 2, 2010

The debate over Arizona's immigration enforcement statute dominated Sunday's political talk shows. On Face the Nation, Arizona Senate candidate J.D. Mike Pence implied that the successful American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is responsible for growing unemployment to nearly 10% nationwide.

The GOP & Immigration Reform: 2006 vs. 2010

Republicans have made it perfectly clear that they intend to stop all progressive legislation -- no matter the cost to their constituents or the country as a whole.  As the fight over comprehensive immigration reform heats up, conservatives should remember who voted for reform in 2006.  Some of the loudest voices in opposition to the 2010 effort come from the same individuals who championed reform in 2006.
