However, President Obama, the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman and the Vice-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Air Force Chief of Staff, the Secretary of the Air Force and even Sen. On June 4, 2009, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor wrote a blog post in which he urged the President to revise his defense budget and warned that the U.S. could regret it if "we didn't prepare for the gathering storm of threats on the horizon." A For Effort, C For Work Completed
Recently, Rep. Mike Pence has made a point of speaking out for our troops. On May 14, 2009, he took to the House floor and rose to support "the military funding in H.R. 2356, the FY 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Bill. It will provide nearly $85 billion to support our men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, those who every day make the sacrifices necessary to ensure our freedom and that of our posterity." Those are beautiful words, but Rep. Pence's actions aren't in keeping with his rhetoric.

During the House Special Orders on May 5, 2009, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) stated that the budget allowance meant to pay for flu vaccines would be better spent on a new fleet of F-22 fighter jets. Tortured Logic: Rep. Peter King Will Shut Down Congress Over Torture Investigations
On April 23, 2009, Politico reported the completely unsurprising fact that Rep. Peter King -- who recently made the nonsensical suggestion that the DHS should be "talking about look out for mosques" -- doesn't want any investigation into Bush era officials responsible for torture. In fact, Rep. King threatened to shut down Congress if any charges are filed, saying, "[w]e would need to have a scorched earth policy and use procedural means to bring the place to a halt - go to war." But Rep. King's defense of torture ignores reality: torture doesn't work and it puts more American lives at risk.
