Rep. Cantor Still Citing Failed Budget

On May 4, 2009, Rep. Eric Cantor sent out a press release claiming, "the Democrat [sic] Majority in Washington remains disconnected from the realities families and small businesses are facing."  He then touted the failed GOP alternative budget proposal, which, in a demonstration of how "connected" the GOP is with reality, called for a complete freeze on almost all domestic spending, made deep cuts in education and Medicare, and resulted in a roughly $500 billion annual deficit - about the same as the Democratic plan.

Rep. Boehner: Hypocrite on Spending

On April 20, 2009, House Minority Leader John Boehner released a statement claiming Americans have "had enough of Washington piling more debt on our children and grandchildren." What he failed to mention, though, is the Republican Party's abysmal record on cutting government spending and reducing debt.  In the twelve years (1995-2007) Republicans had control of Congress, both government spending and the national debt nearly doubled.  With a record like that, Republican leaders have lost the right to criticize others on the importance of fiscal restraint.
