CORE MESSAGE

We must never again send American troops to fight and die without a reason and plan worthy of their sacrifice.

Connect: It's been ten long years since the start of the Iraq War. We must reflect on the lessons learned and the sacrifices of our troops.

Define: We must never again send Americans to fight and die without a reason and plan worthy of their sacrifice.

Describe: Bush Administration officials rushed us to war based on fabricated intelligence and took their eyes off the terrorists behind 9/11 -- costing American lives and harming our strategic interests around the world.

Discredit: Senior officials responsible for the failures of the war do not belong back at the table.

Lead: As we renew our focus on terrorism and rebuild America's economic strength, serving our veterans as well as they've served us means that we must never forget the lessons of the Iraq War.

ATTACKS AND RESPONSES

QUESTION: "Did we win?"
RESPONSE:

  • Are you saying our troops lost?
  • Our troops were sent to take down Saddam's regime and did their job. But because our leaders at the time did not prepare for what would happen next and mismanaged the war, our troops were left to deal with an Iraqi civil war that was not theirs to win.
  • That is why we must never again send Americans to fight and die without a reason and plan worthy of their sacrifice.
