Rep. Bachmann Falsely Claims Health Care Bill Will "Cover Illegal Immigrants"
On July 28, 2009, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) wrote a blog post on Townhall.com titled "Health Care Bill to Cover Illegal Immigrants." After suggesting that members of Congressional Hispanic Caucus don't want language in the bill excluding undocumented immigrants, Bachmann concluded, "It's clear that a bill that is silent on eligibility means a bill that includes illegal immigrants." However, the House bill clearly states: "No Federal Payment for Undocumented Aliens."

The House bill is not, in fact, silent on the issue
House Bill: "No Federal Payment for Undocumented Aliens." According to America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, Page 143, Line 3, Section 246: "No Federal Payment for Undocumented Aliens. Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States." And neither is President Obama
President Obama: Health Care Reform Should Not Cover "Illegal Immigrants." As reported by CBS News, "Asked by CBS News' Katie Couric in an exclusive interview whether illegal immigrants should be covered under a new health care plan, President Obama responded simply, 'no.'"
