Hey, thanks for sending that my way.

It's nuts how many rumors are swirling around out there about the health bills.  It's hard to know which ones are true and which ones are just crazy internet rumors.

If this one were true, I'd be pretty upset - so I decided to see if I could find out for myself.

The author was right when he said that the American Medical Association supported the President's plan for health care reform.  That's a big deal, since they're the biggest doctors group in the country.  But that's not all.  I found another group called Doctors for America that has a lot of information about why doctors should support reform.  You can check out their website: http://www.drsforamerica.org/

Also, a poll just came out from the New England Journal of Medicine that showed an overwhelming majority of doctors (not just the ones in the AMA) support the president's plan to allow people to buy health insurance from the government if they can't get it anywhere else.  You can read about it here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112818960

The email claimed health reform would lead to rationing of health services, especially for seniors.  That's not true.  I came across a well-researched article in Newsweek that calls this a "lie" simply intended to scare people into opposing reform.  You can read it yourself: http://www.newsweek.com/id/212131/page/2

The email also says "people in England over 59 cannot receive stents for their coronary arteries. The government wants to mimic the British plan." Not surprisingly, both of those facts are lies.

As for England, I found a cool website called FactCheck.org that examined the claim about "England anyone over 59 cannot receive heart repairs or stents or bypass because it is not covered as being too expensive and not needed." They said that just wasn't true.

But all of that should be irrelevant - because no one even wants England's health care system.  The president and Democrats in congress know that we have been paying too much, for too long, for too little and are trying to find a "uniquely American solution" to control costs.

You can read more about that here: http://www.factcheck.org/2009/07/englands-and-canadas-health-care/

All these emails going around are pretty scary, but it's important to figure out if they're true.  After doing some research, I can say for sure this one is filled with lies.

Hope that helps.  See ya soon.
