Response

Hey, thanks for sending that email my way.

I was shocked to read those words.  I couldn't believe the President of the United States would say that about our fighting men & women.  But I'm always skeptical of these angry emails, so I decided to see for myself if it was true.

Not surprisingly, it's not true.  President Obama NEVER said "Nobody made these guys go to war.  They had to have known and accepted the risks.  Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice?" Nor has he ever said anything like it.

I found a great website called FactCheck.org that fact checks the statements of both Democrats and Republicans.  The website actually fact checked this exact email!  They wrote: "We searched news databases and turned up no news organization that has ever quoted Obama this way. We conclude that these quotes are simply made-up."

There you have it - that email was a total lie!

You can check it out yourself here http://www.factcheck.org/2009/05/would-obama-have-soldiers-pay-for-own-war-injuries/

During my research I also came across a few speeches Obama gave to veterans groups.  These quotes are actually authentic & they display the admiration he has for veterans.

The President said "To all those who have served America -- our forces, your families, our veterans -- you have done your duty. You have fulfilled your responsibilities. And now a grateful nation must fulfill ours."

During the same speech, he said: "We will fulfill our responsibility to our wounded warriors. For those still in uniform, we're investing billions of dollars for more treatment centers, more case managers, and better medical care so our troops can recover and return where they want to be, with their units."

You can read his whole speech here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/17/AR2009081701657.html

So hopefully that helps put your mind at ease.

Have a good week.
