Rep. Steve King Falsely Links Dunn's White House Departure To ACORN
Yesterday, Anita Dunn, the White House communications director who recently engaged in a spat with Fox News, announced that she's leaving her position at the end of the month.
In a press release, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) suggested that Dunn's departure may not be a coincidence, but rather the result of her supposed connection to ACORN:
Anita Dunn left the White House earlier than expected. Not only has Dunn lavished praises on Chairman Mao and compared him to Mother Teresa, Dunn's husband has a public record of protecting ACORN and protecting President Obama's relationship to ACORN.
Contrary to King's statement, Dunn's departure was "expected" -- her role was always understood to be temporary. What's more, she will remain a consultant to the administration, which flies in the face of the idea that Dunn was banished. As reported by the New York Times:
The switch had been expected; Ms. Dunn took the communications director job earlier this year on an interim basis and had expected to leave at the end of the summer, but President Obama persuaded her to stay on for a few more months. She will return to Squier Knapp Dunn, the media consulting firm where she is a partner, but will stay on as a strategic consultant to the White House.
It's notable that, while fervent Obama-basher Michelle Malkin cautioned readers against claiming Dunn as a casualty in the far-right war on the White House, King just couldn't resist. Not that it's a surprise, but it serves as a reminder of how extreme King really is.
